SUP 2 CLEAN embodies the Sport2Clean philosophy that sport has the power to inspire positive change far beyond the finish line. By combining stand-up paddleboarding with hands-on environmental action, the program encourages participants to embrace the Olympic ideals of respect, responsibility, and striving to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Currumbin Creek, local school students experience the unique opportunity to explore our waterways from their paddleboards before coming together to protect them through a beach clean-up and environmental education session. The experience demonstrates that every paddle stroke can contribute to a healthier planet and that athletes of all ages can become champions for the environment.

Participants collect, sort, and analyse marine debris, gaining firsthand insight into the impact of pollution on our coastal ecosystems. The data they gather is submitted to the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI), supporting national research and conservation efforts while showing students that their actions contribute to meaningful environmental outcomes.

SUP 2 CLEAN reflects Sport2Clean’s broader vision of harnessing the influence of sport to inspire environmental stewardship, unite communities, and create measurable impact. It is a reminder that protecting our playing fields includes protecting our oceans, rivers, and beaches.

This initiative has been made possible through the generous support of the Queensland Government Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, whose commitment to education and conservation has empowered young people to become active participants in safeguarding Australia’s natural environment.
