A Royal Acknowledgement: Sport2Clean Welcomed by King Charles III During the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games
A defining moment in Sport2Clean’s journey took place during the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, when King Charles III and The Queen made a personal visit to one of our community-led environmental initiatives.
Their Royal Highnesses were introduced to students from Robina State High School, recognised for their exceptional efforts in marine conservation. As part of the ceremony, students were presented with custom-designed surfboards in celebration of their commitment, and proudly unveiled a unique bin artwork installation, inspired by microplastic pollution uncovered during their sand-sifting activities on local beaches.
In a moment that perfectly captured the ethos of Sport2Clean, King Charles III requested a live surfing demonstration, reflecting his genuine curiosity and support for using sport as a vehicle for environmental education and youth empowerment.
This royal recognition underscored the impact of grassroots action and the power of young people in shaping a more sustainable future—principles at the heart of everything Sport2Clean stands for.
